Those cells that divide fastest are hurt the most, and they’re the ones in the bone marrow; bone marrow cells are constantly growing and dividing. Radiation poisoning kills these cells, so they can’t make red blood cells, platelets and white cells and leads to diseases like aplastic anemia, leukemia and lymphomas.
